FAQ

1. What is a meme?

A meme, as defined by Urban Dictionary is:

The term Internet meme is a phrase used to describe a catchphrase or concept that spreads quickly from person to person via the Internet, much like an esoteric inside joke.

:)

2. Will you promote my blog?

No. We block all requests for promotions.

3. Can I follow your personal accounts?

Sure. We’re Miguel And Mark.

4. Can you stop posting ______ jokes? It’s offensive.

Just because we post something that has the capability to offend someone, does NOT mean we agree with the photo’s beliefs. We’re sorry if we offend you, but we do not aim to please you and only you. There is a great traffic of people who come to this blog and who DO laugh at some things that we admit are morally wrong. We can’t please everyone, and we accept that, but that doesn’t mean we are going to change ourselves to try and please everyone.

5. A picture I created is up on your blog, will you take it down?

Short answer, no. At meme-spot, we do not claim ownership over anything we post unless explicitly stated otherwise. We will, however, gladly add a link giving credit to the post if you however, provide a direct URL linking us to the post. If you do not provide a URL linking to the post, we are not going to go searching for it. We have over 7,000 posts and counting. It’s just too difficult trying to find it.

6. Where do you get all of your images from?

KYM (http://knowyourmeme.com) for almost all of our images, because it’s pretty much a one-stop place for them. Occasionally, KYM doesn’t work and we’ll go to http://memegenerator.net, which is also a favorite of ours.

But lately, we have been mostly user-submitted! Which not only helps us out a lot, but it gives us an idea for what YOU guys—the followers—like to see.

7. How many followers do you have?

We gain followers so fast that posting a concrete number is futile, and we’re not about to update this page every five minutes.

When we get more questions, we’ll be posting them here. :)

8. How do you pronounce meme?

It’s not “me-me” as some are led to believe. The correct pronunciation is “meem.” See dictionary.com for more: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/meme

9. How can I improve?

There are a few ways we know to improve the quality that you submit:

  • Is the caption appropriate? This is a common mistake we often see. The submitter doesn’t fully understand the meme they’re attempting to craft, and because of that, they often get the caption wrong. To improve your knowledge of memes, please visit http://www.knowyourmeme.com/ . A quick search of the meme you’re trying to make could mean the difference between acceptance and deletion.
  • Peruse our page! Often times we see submissions that are markedly similar to ones we’ve already posted. Take a second to see if it’s already been done before. Repetition is annoying to everyone.
  • Take your time! Making a meme isn’t something that needs to be done in five minutes. Take some time. Revise it a few times. Get some opinions. We’ll still be here tomorrow, we promise.
  • Explore the internet! You don’t necessarily need to make the image you submit. Great resources exist on the web that are treasure troves of memes. Places like 4Chan, Memebase, Knowyourmeme, and Memegenerator consistently provide new and funny content. Take a minute to check those out, if nothing else than for inspiration!

Some submission are just better than others, just as some jokes are better than others. We’ve been nice with what you guys submit and don’t want anyone to feel left behind. Don’t worry, we still got limits, when memes are very lacking we won’t post them.
